The Boys of Ballintubber (Liam O'Toole)

THE BOYS OF BALLINTUBBER

It was on the 14th of October, when our
Boys in red they went to play the game.
They played as though their lives depended on it,
The likes of it I’d love to see again.
The winds that blew across McHale Park that evening,
Were perfumed with excitement as they blew,
Where Horan and Glynn at centrefield played
Gaelic football,
In a style the Kiltimagh men never knew.
And they came and thought to show us
Their way,
At football sure they thought they were the stars,
But they might as well go try and catch
A moonbeam,
As beat Jackie Heneghan ‘ neath the bar.
This team is a credit to Ballintubber,
Killawalla, Ballyglass and Carnacon.
I hope and pray they will stay together,
Until another championship is won.
And if we’re going to win another title,
And somehow I feel sure we’ve just begun,
I’ll ask the lads to make that special effort
And we’ll win again in 1991.
*(If Ballintubber win the intermediate championship in 1999
replace the last verse with-
And if we’re going to win another title,
And somehow I feel we’re getting into line,
I would ask the lads to make a special effort,
And we’ll win again in 1999.
